Startup architecture

The system design that decides whether year two is a rewrite or a release.

Most startup rewrites are paid for by decisions made in week two. We settle those first: where the service boundaries fall, how the data is modelled and migrated, what the infrastructure costs at ten times the traffic — and we write down why, so the next engineer inherits the reasoning and not just the code.

Real-time systems

WebSockets, Socket.IO, Server-Sent Events, queues and event streams that stay honest under load.

Live prices, live matches, live deliveries: when the number on screen is wrong for three seconds, the product is wrong. We build the transport, the fan-out and the recovery — backpressure, reconnects, replay after an outage — so the state a user sees is the state the system holds.

React and Next.js interfaces on a real design system — typed, fast and accessible.

Interfaces built on tokens and components rather than one-off screens, typed end to end against the API, fast on a mid-range phone and accessible because it was built that way. This is where the small details live: loading states, empty states, focus rings, the wording of an error.
